cycling in the countryside in Kent

The Kent countryside is just stunning, and all you have to do to access the famous vineyards views is hopping on a train to Sevenoaks.

This ride starts at the station car park and within less than 10 minutes you’re already cycling in the lanes. Steep and narrow stretches of roads alternate with open fields views and quaint villages : Ightham, Eynsford and Plaxtol.

After 52 kms, you can stop at The Velo Barn; the perfect place for chilling in the sunshine, eating carrot cake and drink a flat white whilst your bike is safe on the rack next to you. Remember to check opening times ahead of the ride as they close quite early in the afternoon.

If you are around from late May onwards, the roads are lined with hundreds of colourful blooms; there is something quite poetic about the petals scattering the tarmac.

Our next stop was Plaxtol, for The Papermakers Arms. This pub serves amazing food, and they’re very friendly with cyclists. Call ahead to check availability (as always) and enjoy the most bougie fish and chips in their beer garden.

We then headed back to the station and got treated with some beautiful golden light and deers crossing the fields : another amazing day on the saddle!

Enjoy the ride!
